In November, grow a mustache to fight cancer.
Together, let's take action against prostate cancer.
In France, prostate cancer ranks as the most common cancer among men, accounting for 25% of all male cancers. Prostate cancer is responsible for over 8,000 deaths annually (in mainland France, according to 2018 public health statistics). It is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths, following lung cancer and colorectal cancer. Prostate cancer is diagnosed in about 66% of cases in men aged 65 and older. The number of deaths primarily affects 79% of men aged 75 and older. Today, there are screening methods available to identify the disease before it spreads. Early screening for prostate cancer allows for earlier treatment and can potentially reduce mortality risks.
What is Movember ?
The Movember event is associated with the prevention and fight against prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health issues such as depression. Originating in Australia, the event, created in 2003, is now global and officially takes place in more than 20 countries. Symbolized by a blue ribbon, men participating in Movember are recognized by starting the month clean-shaven. Then, throughout the month of November, they must grow only their mustaches—not beards or goatees—for this challenge.
Fighting prostate cancer
Movember aims to raise awareness about prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health issues such as depression, which are often taboo topics for men. Movember also seeks to raise funds for medical research. The goal is to reduce the risk of these diseases by promoting early screening for men. There are two methods for screening prostate cancer: a rectal exam and a PSA test, which is done through a blood sample. In case of any abnormalities, a prostate biopsy helps determine the presence of cancer.
Talk about it with those around you, screening saves lives.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in France and is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths among men. It is important not to be afraid to talk about it and to get informed. Adopting the right reflexes, such as screening, can increase the chances of recovery and save lives. Regardless of your age, if you notice any changes between two exams, talk to a professional. Movember allows you to join “bro” communities where you can discuss your concerns about prostate cancer. The hashtag #Movember gives you access to information about Movember, and you can share and react to the hashtag throughout the year.
A single donation can make a difference.
By donating to Movember, you can save lives. Your donations help fund solutions to improve the lives of patients affected by prostate or testicular cancer. Donations also help raise awareness of mental health issues affecting both men and women. It's important to note that 3 out of 4 suicides are committed by men. Mental health problems remain taboo in our society, and we must work to change that. You can support the fight against prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health issues by making a donation directly on the Movember website.
