Pink October Together, let's act against breast cancer
In France, 1 in 8 women is at risk of developing breast cancer during her lifetime. Breast cancer causes over 12,000 deaths annually (in mainland France, according to 2018 Public Health statistics). However, this disease is also very well managed: nearly 90% of patients in France are declared cured after 5 years if the cancer is detected early with preventive screening. A free screening campaign is available for women aged 50 to 74. They receive invitations for a mammogram with their gynecologist or general practitioner. It is therefore important to get screened regularly to increase the chances of recovery and reduce the risk of mortality.
What is Pink October ?
The Pink October campaign is associated with breast cancer prevention and the fight against it. Originally American, the initiative arrived in France in 1994 through the association “Le Cancer du Sein, Parlons-en !” (Breast Cancer, Let's Talk About It!). Every year, from October 1st to 31st, the Pink October campaign is launched. It is symbolized by a pink ribbon representing women's fight against breast cancer. According to the association Breast Cancer Action, "the color of the ribbon embodies femininity, softness, joy, and good health, everything that is the opposite of cancer.
Fighting against breast cancer.
October Rose aims to raise awareness about breast cancer and raise funds for medical research. The goal is also to prevent the risk of the disease by advocating for early screening for women. This screening method, called mammography, is performed by the general practitioner or gynecologist.
Talk about it with those around you, screening saves lives.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in France and the leading cause of cancer-related death among women. It's important not to be afraid to talk about it and to stay informed. Adopting the right habits, like regular screenings, can increase the chances of recovery and save lives. No matter your age, if you notice any changes between two screenings, talk to a healthcare professional. During October Rose, you can have private conversations with an oncologist directly. The hashtag #JaimeMesSeins gives you access to information about October Rose. You can share and engage with the hashtag throughout the year.
